Aaron Hallgath joined Engeny in January 2011 and is the Managing Director  of Engeny and a principal engineer with experience specialising in water resources,  mine water management and floodplain management. Aaron is well experienced in the planning, assessment and engineering design water resource and mine water management infrastructure. Aaron has worked in close consultation with Queensland mining over recent years to improve site water management practices and strategies, optimise water management infrastructure and assess compliance against regulatory requirements. He has a special interest and expertise in:

  • Flood modelling and floodplain management studies
  • Regulated dam hazard, compliance and condition assessments
  • Catchment and dam flood hydrology.

George is the Chairman of Engeny Water Management (Engeny). He has over 30 years of professional engineering experience in water resources and environment, servicing government and private sector businesses.  His technical expertise has been instrumental in successfully leading, managing, and delivering numerous multi-disciplinary projects. George is a civil engineer with a masters degree in water resources. He is a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), and holds membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia. In addition to his role as a managing director of Engeny, he remains involved in providing technical and management roles across a wide range of projects including:

  • water management and water infrastructure design for mining
  • undertaking technical and management roles on numerous complex, two-dimensional flood studies and floodplain management projects
  • providing ongoing review and advice on development assessment (DA) projects to local government clients, including expert witness in the P&E Court on a number of appeal cases
  • undertaking technical and management roles on numerous stormwater, drainage master planning, and catchment management projects for local government and private developers.

Dr Andrew Vitale joined Engeny in January 2011 and is a Director. Andrew has more than 20 years of experience in the water resources sector and has worked in government, academia and engineering consulting positions. He has a bachelor and doctorate degree in civil engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ). Andrew has been responsible for the technical delivery and project management of numerous consulting studies relating to flooding, drainage, stormwater and catchment management, dam hydrology, asset management, and mining and industrial water management. He has a special interest and expertise in:

  • water balance modelling for water supply schemes and mining, coal seam gas and other industrial sites
  • water resource planning
  • regulated dam hazard, compliance and condition assessments
  • catchment and dam flood hydrology.

Susan joined Engeny in January 2017 and is a chartered civil/environmental engineer and has more than 20 years’ experience working in a range of industries. Susan has extensive major projects experience across the infrastructure, mining, extractive industries and industry sectors and has undertaken water resource impact assessments for a wide range of projects.  Susan has prepared a number of project referrals under the EPBC Water Trigger. Susan specialises in projects involving civil and environmental engineering components relating to water resources. This has included hydrology, hydraulics and mathematical modelling of urban and rural catchments; total catchment management including erosion and sediment control and impacts of development on water quality; and floodplain management including flood modelling and hazard assessment. Susan has extensive major projects experience across the infrastructure, mining, extractive industries and industry sectors and has undertaken water resource impact assessments for a wide range of projects.  She has extensive experience engaging with government agencies and the community on water issues and is regularly engaged by clients to provide strategic advice in regard to water resources. Holding degrees in both engineering and applied science, James joined Engeny in May 2014 and is a technical leader in engineering, policy and network management for the planning, design, integration and operation of water systems. James played a key technical role in the establishment of the SEQ bulk Water Grid and has continued to play a leading technical engineering role in infrastructure planning, system optimisation, network management, strategic and operational policy development and implementation for the water supply systems throughout the region. James’ key technical expertise is in piped water systems, including hydraulic and water quality network modelling; however he has demonstrated skills and experience are across the entire water management lifecycle, literally from the “catchment to the tap” with a particular focus on:

Tim joined Engeny in May 2013 and is a chartered civil engineer with consulting experience in both Australia and overseas. Tim has generally focused on projects with major water and earthworks components. His experience ranges from hydraulics and hydrologic assessment, flood modelling, irrigation, dams, pipelines and municipal design. Tim has worked in the water industry across various sectors such as the urban development, public works and resources industries. Tim is a Chartered Engineer (CPEng) and Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ). Tim has site experience in construction supervision and superintending works for water and earthworks projects, and has had numerous site base roles in both the public works and mining space. He has spoken at conferences and made a number of professional presentations and has produced dozens of expert reports.  Andrew is a member of Stormwater Victoria and Engineers Australia. Andrew’s key skills are in:

An expert generalist with a comprehensive understanding of the industry, it’s disciplines, challenges, opportunities, risks and complexities. Jim has three years’ experience as CEO, both appointed and acting, and experience as General Manager in multiple roles and organisations. Jim has managed the entire range of industry assets from catchments to dams and irrigation assets, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, desalination and advanced recycled plants. Also managed customer services, asset management and maintenance, asset delivery, asset planning, strategic planning, risk management, regulatory pricing, Research and Development and climate change. During his last 26 years at Melbourne Water, Phillip held various senior management positions within the waterways and drainage business. In addition to providing leadership and management support to his various teams, Phillip played a lead role in the development and submission of three pricing submissions covering waterways and drainage charges for customers within the Port Phillip and Westernport Region. Nick was also involved in the Clearwater 2012 Water Sensitive Cities Study Tour which was comprised of 18 water professionals from 15 organisations across five states and included an international tour of best practice water sensitive urban design sites. A key objective of the tour was to build a network of emerging leaders in Australian cities and to positively influence the transition to a water sensitive future. Nick has a special interest and experience in:

Tim joined Engeny in May 2017 and is a principal design and drafter.  Tim has over 14 years experience as a civil engineering designer and drafter.  His experience is varied over the civil spectrum from mining and resources to land development and his expertise includes storm water drainage design, water and sewerage infrastructure design, earthworks, erosion and sediment control and water sensitive urban design. Alex joined Engeny’s Melbourne office in November 2019 as a graduate engineer after finishing his Master of Environmental Engineering with a focus on water resources at the University of Melbourne. During his masters at The University of Melbourne, he focused his studies on environmental model conceptualisation, hydrological modelling, stormwater management and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), further developing his passion for the water industry. Prior to completing his masters, he worked for over three years in the United States as a wastewater and water management engineer in the manufacturing sector. At Engeny, Alex aims to continue work in water quality and management fields whilst developing expertise in:

Elena has a range of experience from her previous roles including water quality modelling, design of wastewater treatment and groundwater monitoring. Currently, she is completing the final semester of the Master of Environment (Integrated Water and Catchment Management) at The University of Melbourne. Her research project is primarily focused on the application of flood modelling for assessment of flood management options in urban areas. At Engeny, Elena aims to develop expertise in:

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modelling;
  • Water quality modelling;
  • Water sensitive urban design.

Her background includes being responsible for day to day accounting and compliance functions, preparation of financial statements, reporting to company boards, playing a strategic role in a trade sale process, applying for and administering government grants, and setting up overseas offices. She has also been a member of the Victorian SME committee of CPA Australia which focuses on the issues faced by small to medium sized enterprises from both a business and regulatory perspective.
